What is something you wish someone had told you about starting a company?
My business emerged organically from a hobby. I wish I had been encouraged sooner to explore the possibility of turning my personal interests into professional pursuits.
What advice would you give to a woman who is considering starting her own business?
Be a good researcher and evaluator of your field.
What’s the best career advice you ever received?
Build a community of like-minded women that can help you shape and advance your ideas.
What do you love about running your own business?
Every day, I get to see how my visions get materialized.
Who inspires you as a business woman?
Solange Knowles has served as a critical style muse for me. I’ve also been inspired by how she’s successfully transformed her creative interests into lucrative businesses.
How do you stay motivated through difficult times?
I stay immersed in my community of interest through expansive reading and in-person networking.
What’s been most rewarding?
Being recognized and honored by leaders in my field, such as editors of major magazines, has been quite encouraging.
Who were you before you started your business?
I worked in academia as an educator and researcher.
If you weren’t running your business, what would you be doing?
I would probably still be working in higher education.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I see my business embracing expanded opportunities to spread the message that net style is not determined by net worth.
